Join us at Convention 242 on Saturday 18th September at Whitemoor Lakes.
Whitemoor provides overnight accommodation (suitable for all ages and special needs), so we’re hoping people will want to stay over and enjoy the Remembrance with the Church of God in Birmingham on 19th September (at a nearby venue).
This is a bit of a change from our usual Convention, but we felt it was entirely appropriate! We want to give everyone time and opportunity to catch-up and re-connect, to renew friendships and fellowship, and to enjoy times of singing praise and listening to God’s Word.

Convention 2021 and COVID
The UK Government has lifted all legal restrictions in relation to COVID for England. It’s impossible to know what might transpire between now and Convention 2021 in relation to COVID but we expect to be operating as follows for the event:
Remembrance arrangements & COVID controls
The Remembrance on Lord's Day 19th September will be hosted by the Church of God in Birmingham.
It will be held in the theatre of John Henry Newman College (Chelmsley Rd, Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham, B37 5GA), a venue with tiered seating for 250 people.
The Remembrance will begin at 10.30am and the journey from Whitemoor will take approx. 30-40 minutes.
The Church of God in Birmingham have their own COVID controls, and these will apply for the Remembrance:
- Ventilation will be maximised.
- Everyone will be encouraged to choose their seating location sensibly, to give some room between family groups / bubbles (but this may not always be possible)
- Face coverings will be required by all, except those who are exempt because for medical reasons and young children.
- Face coverings will remain on while singing hymns.
- Brothers participating in thanksgiving will be able to remove their face covering, if they wish.
- The bread and wine will be distributed by Birmingham brothers after the initial breaking of the bread and pouring of the cup (by the brother who gives thanks for them). Suitable controls will be in place to ensure safe handling of the emblems and these will be explained prior to the commencement of the Remembrance.
Given the size of the congregation and the number of men who could potentially participate, the Remembrance will last 1 hour and 15 minutes. Brothers are encouraged to be considerate to others when giving thanks and giving out hymns.
Lunch will not be provided after the Remembrance due to COVID controls.
We look forward to welcoming you to Convention!

Convention 2021 and COVID
The UK Government has lifted all legal restrictions in relation to COVID for England. It’s impossible to know what might transpire between now and Convention 2021 in relation to COVID but we expect to be operating as follows for the event:
- If anyone has or develops COVID symptoms immediately prior to the event, they should not attend the event.
- We would encourage attendees to take a Lateral Flow test in the 48 hours prior to arriving at the event, and to stay away if the result is positive. There will be no requirement to provide proof of a negative COVID test before entry to the event; we will be operating on the basis of trust.
- Facemasks will not be mandatory. It will be a personal decision to wear a face mask, or not.
- To be clear, we will not require face masks to be worn during praise times. The layout of the Whitemoor Lakes centre means that those who are not comfortable remaining in the main hall during those praise times can move to the foyer / seating area outside and listen from a distance, if they wish, returning to the main hall when they feel comfortable to do so.
- The two main meeting rooms at Whitemoor Lakes are well-ventilated. Windows and doors in all areas will be opened to help maintain a fresh flow of air throughout.
- Depending on the number attending, we may be able to designate a section of the main hall as socially distanced seating. We cannot guarantee this though.
- We will provide everyone with a coloured wrist band on arrival that will indicate their preferred level of social contact.
- Hand sanitiser will be available throughout the building.
- The Remembrance will be hosted by the Church of God in Birmingham in accordance with their COVID Risk Assessment and associated measures
- Currently masks are worn throughout the service, and the emblems are distributed in a COVID-safe manner.
- Those staying overnight will be allocated accommodation on a family or agreed-sharing basis (children of attending families, younger people and singles who are happy to share rooms overnight, etc). Depending on the number of people who book, we may be able to provide some single occupancy rooms, but it’s too early to guarantee this at the moment.
